A note from the Artistic Director:
Dear families, friends, and supporters,
Welcome to our performance of The Magical Toy Shop! I am thrilled that you are in attendance to support our incredible dancers. This performance showcases our recreational dancers, with excerpts from our full length ballet Coppelia. I have been looking forward to bringing this fairytale classic to the stage for many years. I am so delighted that we get to present it to you this weekend. This ballet is a poignant and enchanting retelling of a fun and funny classical ballet, Coppelia.
I would like to thank my amazing faculty for their time, talents, and energy. Their creativity, vision, and problem-solving skills are unparalleled. We would not be here without the class parents and other volunteers for contributing their time this week. I also need to recognize many members of my own family for their continued support and manpower to help these performances be successful. Thank you to my husband Mike, without whom West Point Ballet would surely not exist in any form. Finally, thank you parents for your faith in me and support of this program. This has been an amazing ride and I am looking forward to what's to come for West Point Ballet and Utah Theatre Ballet. See you this summer!
Enjoy the show!
Warmly,
Juliana Vorkink Martin
Owner and Artistic Director
Story Synopsis:
"The Magical Toy Shop is a condensed version of the full length ballet Coppelia, which our accelerated track dancers will be performing next week. Coppelia is the story about a scatterbrained toy inventor named Dr. Coppelius. The story unfolds when Dr. Coppelius creates a doll (named Coppelia!) that is so life-like that a local young man named Franz falls in love with her without realizing that she isn’t real. Part of the ballet Coppelia takes place in Dr. Coppelius toy workshop, where all different kinds of dolls and toys come to life. The Magical Toy Shop is inspired by this part of Coppelia. We hope you enjoy these darling snippets from Coppelia! You’ll also see a few dances from the full length ballet interspersed throughout this short and sweet performance.
