What to Expect in a Trial Class
What to Expect in a Trial Class at West Point Ballet
A fun, welcoming introduction to ballet for first-time dancers or experienced ballet students.
What happens in a Trial Class?
Your dancer will:
*Meet friendly teachers
*Explore music and movement
*Learn ballet steps
*Have fun in a welcoming environment
What should my child wear to a Trial Class?
*Dancers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes like leggings, a t-shirt and socks.
*We’re happy to help guide new families through dress code questions.
*After your Trial Class, we’d love for your dancer to start following our dress code.
*If your child has danced. before, they are encouraged to wear regular ballet attired to their Trial Class. But it is not required for a Trial Class.
What should we bring to the Trial Class?
*Just bring a water bottle and comfortable clothes your dancer can move in! Ballet attire is welcome, especially for experienced dancers. But it is not required for a first trial class.
Does my child need previous ballet experience?
*Not at all! Many of our dancers are trying ballet for the very first time. Trial classes are designed to help new dancers feel welcome and comfortable.
*If your child has ballet experience, make sure to mention that to us when we set up the Trial Class so we can plan accordingly.
What if my child feels nervous?
*That’s completely normal! Many dancers feel shy or uncertain when trying something new. Our teachers are experienced in helping children feel comfortable, included, and successful at their own pace.
*We won’t pressure your child into participating. We want their experience to be positive and encouraging. Some children take a little longer to warm up in a new environment. That is totally normal.
Am I allowed to watch the Trial Class?
*We want families to feel comfortable, confident, and connected while their dancer is at West Point Ballet.
*Our studios have small observation windows, and families are welcome to peek in and watch during a trial class!
*To help create a focused and successful learning environment, we kindly ask families to use their best judgment if dancers become distracted by activity at the windows. Thank you for helping us keep our students engaged and attentive to their teachers.
What happens after a Trial Class?
*After class, our teachers will do their best to briefly connect with you, though this can sometimes be tricky depending on the class schedule. We always love meeting parents and sharing how well your dancer did!
*Our wonderful administrative team will follow up with you via email to help guide you through next steps and finalize registration if you’d like to continue.
*Then you’re all set and ready to dance with us!
How do I know which class is right for my child?
*Most recreational classes are grouped by age and experience level. We are always happy to help recommend the best class for your dancer. We will get some information from you when you set up your free Trial Class to help determine the best class for your dancer to try.
*Our accelerated Ballet Academy classes are by teacher placement or audition only. We can help you figure out the best class for your dancer!
What if my child needs time to adjust?
*That’s okay! Every child adjusts differently to a new environment. Some dancers jump right in, while others may need a little extra time and encouragement.
*Our teachers are warm and friendly, and experienced at welcoming new dancers to the studio.
*Dancers about 3-6 years old are often very nervous to come in for the first few classes. This is not a cause for concern. We will help them adjust at their pace.
What if I have more questions?
*We love helping new families navigate the world of ballet! Our staff is always happy to answer questions about classes, dress code, scheduling, or anything else you may need.
*Our teachers are often rushing to their next class so we encourage you to contact our wonderful administrative team with your questions. Texting or emailing us is best!
